I came across this sound bite posted by the good folks over at OPB’s Oregon Field Guide earlier this week and thought it made for an interesting note to end the week on. The recording, which was made last week, is of a pack of wolves in Wallowa County.
After being wiped out decades ago, the animals began reappearing amongst the rugged East Oregon terrain last spring. Certainly the issue of wolves returning to the ecosystem is a thorny one, but no matter which side of the aisle you fall on—love them or fear them—it’s hard to deny the haunting beauty of their wild cries riding on the wind.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go crank up Blitzen Trapper’s Furr.
