As fashions fill the runway this fall, don’t look for a single, dominant style. Think of the iconic silhouettes of past decades, redone with modern detailing, techniques, and fabrics—each the product of a distinct fusion that will one day be known as the look of the ’10s.
Studio Sundell, composed of creative collaborators Carlin Sundell and Loann Vo, teamed up with fashion writer Eden Dawn and Portland Monthly art director Jason Blackheart to create this month’s fashion feature. Deciding that the looks for fall could be captured only among the wheat fields and monuments of the Columbia River Gorge, they took to the road for a daylong adventure. Adding to the thrill of the shoot were the unrelenting elements, with temperatures approaching 100 degrees on set. Thankfully, everyone survived and the team returned home, sunburned and exhilarated. When they aren’t creating new concepts, Sundell and Vo can be found eating meat and drinking champagne.
