Saturday night at The Ace was undoubtedly the fashion party of the year. With crowds strewing into the street and the internal bars completely sold out of all alcohol long before the event closed, it seemed half the city was clamoring to get to the second floor to see what genius the designers had concocted.
With rooms ranging from interactive ala Tanner Goods ye olde time movie theater showcase (complete with popcorn) to Olo Fragrance’s quietly sit in the tent and zone out to headphones, there was a space for every one and every taste level. Some of the most buzzed about rooms (read: had to throw some elbows to get in) of the evening included: Imaginary Authors magical bookshelves that when opened revealed a tiny world representing a different version of the company’s intoxicating scents, TBA Shoes spot on recreation of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet with Leo DiCaprio and Claire Danes their models lying in state amongst pretty shoes, Liza Reitz bold black room of just two sculptural white dresses and nothing else, Portland Garment Factory’s veritable dreamland of eye stamped adornments, Reif’s rave room (complete with takeaway glow sticks!), and SeaEcho’s room dedicated to a new crop of yet-to-be-recognized saints including the Patron Saint of Puppies all clad in one of their Pendleton purses.
But five mere hours proved far too short (why would anything close by 10pm on a Saturday night?), and long before the crowd wanted, we were shuffled out onto the street forced to wait an entire year to find that much escapism in one convenient place again.
