PORTLAND MONTHLY PUBLISHER

SagaCity Media is searching for a dynamic, talented individual with a strong digital, print and event sales leadership background for the role of Publisher of its flagship title – Portland Monthly.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Raise the profile of Portland Monthly’s high impact & targeted print, event and digital media solutions.
  • Create and foster significant relationships with client and community leaders, demonstrating the brands’ values and achievements.
  • Strong sense of numbers and managing budgets.
  • Utilize expert level knowledge of unique digital media sales opportunities to generate revenue growth in video, native/sponsored content, microsite, and social media promotions.
  • Stay well informed of new and trending digital media products within the industry to identify and launch sales efforts.
  • Develop and implement sales strategies both short-term, as well as long-term, to meet aggressive digital revenue targets.

AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

SagaCity Media is seeking a bright and motivated individual to fill the role of Audience Development Manager in our downtown Portland office. The candidate must be detail-oriented and possess strong analytical skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executes day-to-day email newsletter strategy including testing, optimization, and reporting.
  • Oversees database and marketing automation strategy, utilizing consumer data to measure engagements and conversions.
  • Manages and measures social targeting campaigns, identifies ways to increase visibility, and establish best practices.
  • Oversees traditional subscriber retention practices and schedules, including gift campaigns, to determine opportunities to increase response rate.
  • Assists Director of Audience Development with collection and filing of circulation audit material.
  • Maintains proficiency and knowledge of market trends, technologies and products. 

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in marketing, business, communications, or publishing
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment and flexible to shifting priorities

JUNIOR DESIGN INTERN

JOB DESCRIPTION

Portland Monthly magazine is seeking a creative and ambitious individual for a six-month paid internship in our art department. The position will work closely with the Art Director, Associate Art Director, and editorial staff to collaboratively create both print and digital versions of the magazine and its subsidiary products. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter who is extremely interested in print and digital publications, particularly magazines. High attention to detail is required, along with the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time. Digital content creation experience is a must. (NOTE: This is a part-time, six-month internship, paid on an hourly basis. We will create a schedule that works for the right candidate, but we do require consistent availability to complete the required projects each month.)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Convert and optimize each issue of the magazine for a variety of digital platforms (iPhone, iPad, etc) using Adobe DPS
  • Maintain a set of best practices for DPS, and consult with other publications at Sagacity regarding DPS
  • Conceptualize and design magazine pages, with an emphasis on department pages
  • Assist as needed with photo shoots, photo research, prop gathering, and other tasks
  • Assist with administrative duties for the art department as needed
  • Occasionally assist other Sagacity properties in a design capacity, from marketing to custom publications

DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong skills in Adobe DPS and Creative Suite
  • Strong design and typographic skills
  • Precise attention to detail and the ability to work on tight deadlines
  • Interest in exploring new directions for magazine media
  • Proficiency prepping pages and artwork: flowing copy, tightening layouts
  • Experience in brainstorming/conceptualizing ideas for visual storytelling
  • Photography and/or illustration chops are a plus, as well as on-set photo experience

MARKETING DESIGNER 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Portland Monthly, the city's award-winning regional magazine, and SagaCity Media are looking for a Marketing Designer to join our downtown Portland–based team. This is a beginner/mid-level position, with at least 2 years experience in graphic design. We’re looking for the right someone to develop smart, creative marketing materials that drive interest and awareness of our publications, promotions, events, and partners. Candidate must be flexible, detail-oriented, pro-active, and have good multi-tasking and time management skills. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Marketing & Sales Department to develop and design advertising proposals, mock-ups, presentations, sell sheets, program recaps, and sales materials for SagaCity, Oregon publications (Portland Monthly, Portland Bride and Groom, the PEARL)
  • Work with the Sales & Marketing Director in the creation of unique event and advertiser promotion collateral that falls within the said publications design guidelines
  • Work with the Editorial & Art Department to develop and maintain brand guidelines as related to marketing ads. 

 DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Highly responsible, collaborative, and self-motivated
  • Minimum of two years experience in graphic design, typography, interactive design and/or visual communications
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining keen attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with other teams

MARKETING & EVENTS GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN

Portland Monthly, the city’s award-winning regional magazine, and SagaCity Media are currently seeking a bright and motivated marketing design intern to assist in the Marketing & Events department. This internship will begin in September and last 12 to 16 weeks depending on the needs/schedule of the candidate. Weekly schedule is flexible to accommodate student academic schedules. 20 hours per week preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Print designs (including internal event posters, flyers, certificates, signage, and promotion)
  • Web content designs (including web ads, e-blasts, and various graphics)
  • Updating existing design files with new text and images
  • Updating and creating dynamic proposals templates and tools for business to business outreach
  • Research for design projects, including collecting photos, graphics and font files

DESCRIPTION

As an intern you will be guided by our Marketing Designer, on how to design and correctly set up various files for print. You will also build files for the web, but you will be trained on how to do this so your web design skills can be minimal. You will learn how to manage and organize files on our server and work with our Production team assisting with various design projects.

This internship will give you experience working on a variety of design projects, and will challenge you to try different techniques and styles. You will leave the internship with more projects for you portfolio, along with the design skills to work in a fast paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be working toward a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, and have already been through portfolio review. Must have a website or PDF portfolio submitted for consideration. Must have experience working with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Clear communication, exceptional organization skills – in regards to file management – and a strong attention to detail are required.
