Rachel Ritchie oversees Portland Monthly’s travel and outdoors coverage, Style, Habitat, and Long Story Short departments, and writes and edits service features and narrative stories. She also co-edits the travel and outdoors blog, Tripster. She also attempts to enforce deadlines and keep the budget balanced—much to her coworkers’ amusement.
Since coming aboard in 2009, Rachel has helped Portland Monthly earn numerous City and Regional Magazine and Society of Professional Journalists award nominations, including General Excellence awards in 2011 and 2013, and two SPJ awards for Leisure and Lifestyle Reporting (“Best Restaurants,” “The 10 of 2013”). She has also written and edited pieces on everything from culinary road trips in the Northwest to exploring the history and landscape of Mount St. Helens.
The Boston native arrived in Oregon armed with a liberal arts degree in English literature from Colby College in 2005, and joined the Portland Monthly staff after two years at SagaCity’s now-folded, much-beloved Portland Spaces magazine.
