Price Scale

Marius Pop’s impressive pastries once populated many Portland coffeehouses, but these days the cult sweet goodies, from the fine berry brioche cake to an epic cinnamon Danish (think baroque French pastry on a blind date with a glazed doughnut), are available only at Pop’s own café. The sandwich menu holds locally made bratwurst slathered in mustard and globs of creamy melted brie, or a flaky croissant cradling avocado and bay shrimp tossed with apricot crème fraîche. Follow the thump of house music down the stairwell to Nuvrei’s underground Mac Bar, a tiny counter hawking a rainbow of French macarons and hot, shatteringly good chocolate croissants—baked on the hour until 2 p.m. This is one of the best midday finds in the Pearl District.
