It’s common for the world-class pianists coming through town to play Portland Piano International to take our breath away with their playing. But it’s a rare day when they do so with their style and beauty. Enter Lola Astanova. The 28-year-old Russian-American pianist was ranked one of the “Top Ten Style Icons in Classical Music” by Limelight Magazine, graced the cover of Haute Living with a photoshoot at Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago Club, and lists the thoroughly un-classical Sex and the City as a primary source of stylistic inspiration. The pianist will bring her magnetic personal style and virtuosic chops to a benefit for Portland Piano International and Portland Japanese Garden. She'll be performing a program that includes works by Scriabin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Chopin, that also includes a nod to "Sakura Sakura" a Japanese folk song that celebrates the coming of spring.
