Got out-of-state holiday visitors? What better way to show off your idyllic Pacific Northwest lifestyle than by indulging in a bit of pre- or post-Thanksgiving wine tasting? Get the family out of the house for a day with these holiday events in the Willamette Valley, the Columbia Gorge, and right here in Portland.

Get Out of Town

If you've never visited the Willamette Valley in late November, you're in for a treat. The vines flanking every hill in the area have turned gold, gilding the area with fall colors and holiday spirit. For over 30 years, the valley's best wineries have celebrated the end of harvest with Thanksgiving weekend events for the whole family. Visit and the Washington Country Wine website for a full list of participating Willamette Valley wineries offering free events, tastings, and discounted bottle and case prices to get started on your holiday shopping.

The Willamette Valley isn't the only drinking destination for the holidays. Everything from Albariño to Zinfandel is grown in the Columbia Gorge, and at less than an hour away along the I-84, they couldn't be more accessible. Wineries in the Columbia Gorge will be offering open houses for Thanksgiving Weekend, November 23rd through 25th, with affordable tastings, massive bottle discounts, food pairings, new release events, and plenty of fun surprises (and great views). Visit for a list of participating wineries, wine tour maps, and tasting room hours.

Keep it Local

An Urban Winery Holiday: The team behind the new SE Wine Collective is opening their doors for a week of post-harvest activities. On Saturday, November 17th and Sunday, November 18th, check out the new home of Vincent Wine Company, Bow & Arrow Wines, Helioterra Wines and Division Winemaking Company from noon to 5 pm. Guests will be invited tour the new cutting-edge communal winemaking facility, meet the winemakers, taste wines made in house at the cozy, modern tasting bar, and indulge in holiday nosh for just $15.

The weekend of tastings will be followed up with a "Bunk n Funk" dinner and dance party on Wednesday, November 21st from 5 to 10 pm. The Bunk Truck will be doling out sandwiches, DJ duo New Jack City will be spinning funk and nineties R&B, and the resident winemakers will be pairing wines (and beers!) with the comfort food and grooves all night long.
