For all you wine lovers out there who don’t enjoy long drives through the 'burbs and struggle to find a “legally required” designated driver for those jaunts out to wine country, the 4th annual PDX Urban Wine Experience offers you a chance to taste some of the best wines in Oregon—without leaving the city limits.

The fun is going down June 8 from 3-6 pm at RefugePDX in inner SE Portland, when urban tipplers will sample pours from winemakers and owners of 11 different urban wineries. Participating wineries include: Bow & Arrow, Clay Pigeon Winery, Division Winemaking Company, ENSO Winery, Fullerton Wines, Helioterra Wines, Hip Chicks Do Wine, Jan-Marc Wine Cellars, Seven Bridges Winery, Vincent Wine Company, and Viola Wines.

Samples and sales from local vendors and shops will also be available—participating artisans will include Crown Paella, Jacobsen Salt Co. sea salt, Portland Creamery, Tabor Bread, and Tabor Tavern.

The urban wine scene in Portland has grown dramatically in recent years, with 8 out of the city's 14 in-town wineries opening in the past five years.

Next to Seattle, Portland has the second highest number of urban wineries. Rather than the wide-open spaces of vineyards, these wineries are nestled in repurposed buildings, warehouses, or garages. While these city-bound vintners may lack the scenic splendor of Dundee's rolling hills or the Umpqua's dusty banks, the crafting of high-class wines has earned Portland a newly-minted reputation as a premier wine destination (learn more about Portland’s urban wine scene in our recent feature, Meet Portland’s Top Urban Wine Makers).

Advanced tickets to the PDX Urban Wine Experience are $32 if purchased by June 1, and $40 at the door. Tickets include 2-3 different wines from all 11 participants.
