Head's up, thirsty coeds. First National Taphouse has opened a new location on SW 5th near Portland State University, offering a wide selection of beers and wines from across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
The Irish-inspired pub's flagship location sits inside the building that housed Eugene, Oregon’s first bank, and was founded with reverence for Oregon’s trailblazers—from loggers and farmers to bank robbers and outlaws—and, apparently, a love of college towns. At its just-opened Portland branch, the one-year old brand continues to pay homage to Oregon’s history and past generations.
“We wanted to grow our brand and expand the concept and Portland seemed like a natural fit,” says regional manager Jennifer D’Annunzio. “We looked at the neighborhood and realized that there’s nothing like what we’re doing in this part of town.”
In addition to 30 beers and eight wines on tap and 432 bottles of local and international beers and ciders, First National Taphouse's menu from chef David Bloomfield takes on Northwest bounty with an Irish twist—think "Colcannon Skins" (twice baked fingerling potatoes, with bacon jam, mascarpone, kale, and chives), shepherd's pie, smoked salmon candy salad, Irish whiskey pepper steak, and weekend brunch items including loaded Irish potato pancakes and country ham scones with Irish cheddar and caramelized shallots topped with a fried egg.
