Sleater-Kinney's forthcoming album, No Cities To Love

Last week we listened to every Sleater-Kinney album ever released—seven records in seven hours—to celebrate the band's remastered box set coming out tomorrow, October 21. But as of today, that article is no longer a definitive guide to Sleater-Kinney's entire catalog: the Northwest punk outfit announced that it has reunited to release its eighth studio album, No Cities To Love, on January 20, 2015, and to follow it with a string of tour dates.

The album was recorded in secret earlier this year at San Francisco's Tiny Telephone Recordings and Portland's Kung Fu Bakery. It is produced by longtime Sleater-Kinney collaborator John Goodmanson, the person behind Call the DoctorOne BeatDig Me Out, and All Hands on the Bad One.

In addition to announcing news of the album, the trio released a download link and lyric video for their single, "Bury Our Friends," which actually comes as a part of the box set in the form of a 7-inch single.

"We sound possessed on these songs,” Carrie Brownstein said in a press release this morning, “willing it all–the entire weight of the band and what it means to us–back into existence.”

Janet Weiss added, “The three of us want the same thing. We want the songs to be daunting.”

The trio also announced 21 tour dates from Washington to Ireland that sadly does not currently include Portland, although Sleater-Kinney's Twitter assured that additional tour dates will be released soon.
