With vibrant, multi-hued leaves of gold and orange scattered across the pond gardens and bright crimson trees peeking through the green, the Portland Japanese Garden beckons your visit this fall before its colder (and less colorful) transition to winter. With five distinct garden styles—each exuding a sense of harmony through traditional Japanese landscaped compositions—this 5.5 acre-wide garden is a spectacle with pagodas, quaint bridges, and carefully crafted karesansui (gardens of raked sand). Wander through the Strolling Pond Garden and spot the beautiful koi in the pools, or spend some time in the Tea Garden amid a rustic garden path and lanterns for quiet reflection. The Portland Japanese Garden’s fall hours are Monday, 12 pm to 4 pm, and Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. Click through to the slide show above for a tour of the garden's gorgeous fall colors.
