Don’t you wish Halloween lasted longer than a day? Well, 30 miles northwest of Portland in St. Helens, Oregon ... it does! The town, a shooting location for the 1998 cult Disney Channel Original Movie “Halloweentown” celebrates the holiday for October’s entirety with the Spirit of Halloween festival, because, well...

If you haven’t seen the movie, don’t be afraid—Spirit of Halloweentown welcomes seasoned vets and newcomers all the same. In honor of the 17th anniversary of the film, St. Helens is pulling out all the stops when it comes to family fun. Visitors, such as Kimberly J. Brown who plays ‘Marnie’ in the film (see above), have been dropping by to hold conference on all things Halloweentown. Check the town's Facebook page to stay updated on guest appearances to be made before the end of the month.

What to do at Spirit of Halloweentown?

Visit the Courthouse Plaza: The heart of the festival surrounds the Courthouse, which is easily the most recognizable set from the film. The iconic giant grinning jack-o-lantern holds court over the town and gladly poses for photos.

Scarecrows of St. Helens: It is hard to miss the many scarecrows scattered along the road leading innocent souls to the plaza. The CrossFit scarecrow conveniently located outside a gym is especially chilling.

Hitch a ride: Wait your turn at the Courthouse to take a haunted tractor ride that will lead you on a brief tour of the area, covering all the ghoulish basics.

Pick up some vintage duds: With several antique shops crowded into one block, it is hard to pass up the allure of bringing a spooky (or not) souvenir home.

Grab a bite: Head a block South of the main plaza to Klondike for sandwiches eaten under seasonal decoration. In the mood for something sweet? Dari-Delish located just outside town has got you covered with an expansive menu of ice scream, oops, ice cream.

Check the events listings: The last weeks counting down to Halloween are filled with frightful events such as Walking Dead Halloween Tours, Glow in the Dark Disc Golf for children, tarot readings, and more. Check out the full event calendar

(Psst: Let your last stop in town be a quick visit to the home of Twilight’s fictional Bella Swan and her recklessly gun-toting father. Because why not? 184 S. 6th St.)
