Not long ago, consumer finance was a required course in Oregon high schools. In fact, in November 1973, Oregon established an official curriculum to help students understand the basics of handling money. After all, if they were able to earn money, shouldn’t they understand how to handle it?

Oregon was at the forefront and a national leader in financial education, but something has gone awry. In a 2013 Consumer Financial Literacy Survey, our state received a dismal “D” grade compared to other states.

One of our missions at McGee Wealth Management is to help improve these numbers. To make it possible for you to pick up where high school and college may have fallen short, we offer personal coaching and group education.

Many believe the most effective way to learn is through personal hands-on experience. When you are exposed to investments, money management, and the tools that help people become financially successful, habits can change. Outcomes can be noticeably improved.

As part of our ongoing educational efforts, McGee Wealth Management is hosting an all-day Economic & Investment Forum with an impressive line-up of recognized presenters in the fields of economics, finance, estate planning, and behavioral science.

Keynote speakers include:

Well-known economist, noted speaker, and Oregonian, John Mitchell, Ph.D. of M & H Economic Consultants, who will share his insights and predictions for the economy. Mitchell, a former chief economist for U.S. Bancorp, has been giving his lively and informative economic presentations for more than 43 years.

National speaker, Jeff Bush, is known for his unique ability to decode difficult and confusing tax and fiscal information coming out of Washington. Jeff is a colleague of Andy Friedman and an integral part of The Washington Update, the industry thought leader that guides domestic clients through the complex and ever-changing political and tax environment and helps international audiences understand U.S. politics.

In addition to keynote addresses, attendees will choose breakout sessions on topics of interest including global investment outlooks, ETF’s, Quality of Life, Behavioral Aspects of Investing, IT, iPads and Cellphones, and more. Join our Q&A panel on Trusts & Estate planning featuring local professionals Linda Top, CPA and Erin Evers, CPA, JD with Raymond James Trust attorney, Jon Muir.

The day of exciting educational opportunities will close with a fun reception and door prizes. Reservations are required; space is strictly limited. Lunch and refreshments are included. Saturday, September 26th, 2015; 8 a.m. Embassy Suites, Washington Square. $75 in advance.
