Neesay at the 19th Hole

What: The pop-up gets meta on Wednesday when Hotel DeLuxe’s mini golf pop-up, the 19th Hole, plays host to Chef Jun Robles’s food cart pop-up, Neesay. You’ll want to get your mini golfing done first, given Robles’s food coma-inducing twist on Asian cuisine. Expect the likes of poutine with oxtail gravy and kimchi salsa.

OP’s Alex Yoder Takes on Japanese Farm Food

What: Next Wednesday, Alex Yoder, head chef at Olympia Provisions, will prepare a five course dinner inspired by Nancy Hachisu’s latest cookbook, Preserving the Japanese Way. The author, who has lived and farmed in rural Japan for almost 30 years, will be on hand to talk about Japanese farming and cuisine. If you can’t catch her at OP, Hachisu will also be doing a reading at Powell’s City of Books on September 11.

 Choreography and Couscous at the TBA Festival

What: Never has meal prep been more theatrical. Radhoune El Meddeb is a choreographer of French and Tunisian heritage who grew up watching his mother lovingly prepare couscous for every family celebration. Now he brings that intimacy and affection to the stage, literally preparing couscous as part of his performance at the Time Based Arts Festival.
When: Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, September 16 at 8:30pm

Cookbook Readings at Powell’s

Voracious
What: Cara Nicoletti’s Voracious: A Hungry Reader Cooks Her Way Through Great Books, is a celebration of dishes inspired by her favorite books, from The Silence of the Lamb’s fava bean and chicken liver mousse crostini to a less creepy soft-boiled egg cooked to perfection a la Austen’s Emma.
