Willow to Go Full-Time

Willow chefs Doug Weiler and John Pickett have expanded their pop-up/dinner party model to a full-service, Tuesday through Saturday, six-course dinner affair in the former Fenrir/2nd Story space (2005 SE 11th Ave). The counter service-only, 10-seat restaurant will offer two seatings and serve locally sourced plates like vegetable poutine with candied beets and ricotta gravy and ocean trout with carrot sugar, dill, and pickles.

Viking Soul Food to Open New Nordic Cart

One of Portland’s veteran food carts is about to have a sister. The Oregonian reports that Megan Walhood and Jeremy Daniels, owners of Southeast Belmont’s Viking Soul Food, will open the Wild Hunt, a cart bringing Scandinavian and German influences beyond their well-known lefse wraps. The Wild Hunt plans to open this spring inside a pimped-out 1987 school bus parked outside Southeast Portland winery Teutonic, with dishes like blood sausage smørrebrød and pork steak with Jarlsberg apple mustard.

Renata Launches Happy Hour

The ambitious, upscale Italian eatery is introducing a new happy hour menu, Aperitivo, serving Italian street food bites like salt-and-vinegar pork rinds and fritto misto, along with a new spring cocktail menu, with drinks like the Paper Moon (pisco, vermouth, and chamomile). Happy hour will be served Monday–Friday, from 4–5:30 p.m.

Slate to Open in Former Equinox Space

Longtime local chef Kelly Weis (most recently of Farm Café) is heading up a new restaurant and bar, Slate (830 N Shaver St.), serving “a wide spectrum of food cultures and flavors while maintaining a firm foot in local products,” plus a pre-Prohibition cocktail menu, Old World and local wines, and Pacific Northwest micro beers.
