Note: The mass shooting that targeted Orlando's LGBTQ community left us heartbroken and enraged. As Portland celebrates Pride, we feel it's more important than ever to embrace our city's diversity, creativity, and strength.
Flare, our Pride kickoff party, will showcase LGBTQ designers in what is Portland Monthly’s first-ever fashion show in the magazine’s 13-year history.
What will it look like? The proud feminists of Wildfang promise suits for all seasons; Brady Lange studied ancient samurai for inspiration; Bryce Black vows a retrospective of his most flamboyant runway hits; and V Throngrivong—proud activist for trans rights and awareness—says her collection will bring out the royalty.
The show will be a highlight of FLARE, Portland's official Pride kickoff party on Thursday, June 16. Portland Monthly takes over South Waterfront’s Zidell Yards for the fashion show and best-dressed contest, with New York DJs— JD Samson (formally of Le Tigre) and hip-hop artist Cazwell—leading a kick-ass dance party.
FLARE benefits three remarkable nonprofit organizations: Basic Rights Oregon, Love Wins, and the Bus Project. Get your dance on and give back to the nonprofits dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ community at the same time. We’ll have Hot Lips Pizza, KOi Fusion, Smaaken Waffles, Ruby Jewel, and the Hot Box BBQ onsite. If that doesn’t get you there, Portland Monthly’s Poison Waters and Style Editor Eden Dawn will emcee the festivities, hand out prizes, judge the outfits, and keep bourbon cocktails as far away from the fire dancers as possible. (Use promo code “LOOKBOOK” for $5 off tickets.)
We’re gonna keep dancing.
