As Eat Beat first reported in May, Sammich, Ashland’s New York Times-famous pastrami sandwich shop, is headed to Portland. To test the waters, Sammich owner Melissa McMillan plans to open a pastrami-focused food cart, Pastrami Zombie. Now, Eat Beat has learned that cart has a home: Pastrami Zombie will open at 2010 W Burnside, right next to the Koi Fusion cart in front of Providence Park, starting June 18.

McMillan promises mostly pastrami-centric, no-frills “blue-collar” sandwiches at her Pastrami Zombie, all anchored by Double R Ranch brisket from Washington. Details are still shaky, but she hopes to bring her classic pastrami on rye, the Peppie (egg salad and pastrami) and a non-pastrami tuna sandwich, made with house-poached Oregon-caught albacore.

Pastrami Zombie will be open Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m., or until sold out (which is nearly guaranteed to happen before closing).
