Slurp an amaro float at Burrasca 

This no-frills Tuscan eatery is shaping up to be one of the best places to while away the summer. Follow these instructions: sit at the new, upgraded back patio, shrouded in bamboo and flowering dogwoods. Next, order the “Messner Climbs McKinley,” a bitter root beer float spiked with Elisir Novasalus amaro and elderflower, and topped with a fizzy dollop of nougat gelato from nearby Pinolo Gelato.

Brave the lines at Fifty Licks 

The formidable line snaking out of this cute SE Division street ice cream parlor is well worth it. Overshadowed by the Salt & Straw behemoth just up the road, ice cream creative Chad Draizin manages to straddle the line between inventive and just plain yummy. Our recent obsession? A boozy, 21+ “Pirate” flavor, churned with a coconut milk base, Smith & Cross rum, Barbados molasses, “West Indies” spices, and chunks of frozen roasted banana.

Brunch at Autentica is a rite of passage for serious Portland eaters. For the uninitiated, try the chilaquiles rojos, ribbons of crispy masa tortilla soaked through with guajillo chile sauce, loaded with thick cuts of skirt steak and creamy refried black beans and topped with queso fresco. That, and a salty, spicy, thirst-quenching michelada can cure just about any hangover.
