Great Notion’s juicy, hazy IPAs sell out fast at its NE Alberta taproom, thanks to national acclaim in BeerAdvocate and even Men’s Journal. By summer’s end, the operators will also open a new 19,000-square-foot brewery in Northwest. A restaurant will follow by end of year.
When this Southeast spot opens its doors later this summer, owners Charlie Hyde and Steve Balzer say you can expect the best of an intimate brewpub combined with the convenience of an old-school corner market: pre-made sandwiches, and a taplist heavy on lagers, sours, and Belgians.

The brainchild of three PDX beer vets, Geoff Phillips (Bailey’s Taproom), Jason Barbee (Ex Novo), Shane Watterson (Laurelwood), this Argay neighborhood brewery is busy fermenting its line of “balanced,” lighter craft beers. Alas, the beer was not ready in time for our print schedule.
Since 2015, Ruse head brewers Devin Benware and Shaun Kalis have barrel-blended their own farmhouse ales, pales, and saisons in Culmination Brewing’s Northeast production space. Soon, they’ll have a 6,000-square-foot space for lagering and—this is where Kalis bubbles over—fruit-forward styles with ripe berries and Oregon nectarines.
