Woodsman Tavern to Close; Tasty n Sons Will Move into the Space 

The Oregonian is the first to report that the Woodsman Tavern, the first restaurant project from Stumptown founder Duane Sorenson, will close by the end of the year. The Woodsman typified an age of locally sourced timber, whiskey curation, and wood-fired trout. The kitchen changed hands over the years, with its identity waffling between a lavish, Southern destination restaurant and seasonal local cookery, eventually becoming more of a neighborhood bar with solid, blue-collar meatloaf, fried pickles, and regular Blazers game viewings. In recent years, Sorenson’s personal philosophies have shifted towards clean living, with his vegan and gluten-free Holiday, one of Portland Monthly's Best New Restaurants of 2018, and a new coffee project, Puff.

Meanwhile, North Williams brunch icon Tasty N Sons will abandon its original location and move into the old Woodsman space with a new name, Tasty N Daughters. Owner John Gorham tells the O: “When we opened Tasty N Sons, I really was paying attention to the lifestyle on Williams, the bike riders, the walkers. But the last three to four years, Williams just really turned in a different direction than the neighborhood that I fell in love with.” Tasty N Daughters is expected to open as soon as February 1. 

Dame Opens a Bottle Shop 

Natural wine bar Dame, which has remained a presence on NE Killingsworth despite losing its sommelier mastermind Dana Frank, will open a new bottle shop on November 15. The retail space will curate the same types of local and international bottles: grapes grown and processed with “minimal manipulation.” Weekly tastings with local makers are also in the works.

Blue Star Hawthorne Moves to Division; Fried Egg I’m in Love Moves to Hawthorne

This is Blue Star’s second shuffle in recent months. After shifting its headquarters downtown, the local doughnut tycoon has relocated its popular Hawthorne location a few blocks south to 3325 SE Division Street, next door to Salt & Straw and seemingly every other Portland micro-chain. Fried Egg I’m In Love, SE Hawthorne’s popular breakfast sandwich cart, will take the old Blue Star space in its first brick-and-mortar location.

New Details for Paleys' Third Hotel Restaurant

Vitaly and Kimberly Paley teased the name of their third hotel restaurant, set inside the Dossier Hotel, on Instagram: Rosa Rosa—Vitaly Paley’s grandmother and a nod to the City of Roses. According to EaterPDX, Rosa Rosa will cook at “the culinary crossroads of the Roman and Ottoman Empire: Simply put, they’re talking pastas, hard-to-find herbs and spices, lamb, and other flavors cherry-picked from meals in Turkey, Georgia, and beyond.”
