The voters have spoken!
The Nike-sponsored Biketown Design Challenge launched in February and invited creatively inclined Portlanders to rebrand the city’s fleet of orange shared bicycles. After a panel of judges whittled the entries down to 15 finalists, the public were left to select the winning original designs, one for each quadrant.
In North Portland, Teresa Bubb’s “Paul Bunyan Ride” pays homage to the mythical logger immortalized in Kenton’s 30-plus-foot statue that watches over us all year long. Sean Lambert’s “NE Cycling Life” conveys the kind of vibrant “controlled chaos” travelers are likely to confront while navigating the city’s one-way streets. In Southeast, Marguerite Shumm’s “Explorin’ Southeast” celebrates the myriad adventures to be had while navigating the Rose City on two wheels. Renata Castro’s “Colorful Portland” acknowledges the immense palette of cultures and people, from near and far, that make the city a truly colorful place to live. Ayla Leisure, of Southwest, pays homage to the river that binds Portland in her blue “Waterfront Wanderer” design, with symbols in white that convey the “modern, weird, active, adventurous, proud, kind and dynamic nature of the city” that we call home.
