UPDATE: The deadline for nominations for the 2019 Light a Fire Awards have passed. Thank you!
Good news to those of you who keep tabs of Portland's do-gooders and boundary-breakers! We’ve extended our deadline for nominations for our annual Light a Fire awards—you now have until July 12 to tell us who we should be shining a light on this year. Portland Monthly’s annual Light a Fire Awards unite local philanthropic organizations and regional businesses to celebrate dedicated groups and individuals working to make our city and state better for all.
Now in its 15th year, the awards ceremony is adding a brand new category called Leveling the Field, granted to a nonprofit pushing for gender equality.
But we need your help to make this the best Light a Fire award season ever. Follow this link to submit a nomination now! We want to hear all about the nonprofits, volunteers, and charitable projects dedicated to improving our communities. You can submit a nomination for anyone you think is deserving—including yourself. The winners will be chosen by an independent panel of experts.
Over 15 years, the Light a Fire Awards have honored more than 200 organizations and individuals working on a range of issues, including health care, education, the environment, hunger, at-risk youth, and homelessness.
With more than 22,000 registered nonprofit organizations across the Portland metro area, we lean on our readers and fellow citizens to help us determine whom to celebrate. Honorees will have their stories featured in Portland Monthly’s November issue (check out last year’s winners here) and will be feted at our annual Light a Fire awards ceremony on Thursday, November 21st, at the Portland Art Museum, where one lucky nonprofit will also receive our big check.
Please let us know who deserves the spotlight this year!
