Palm Springs may be the place best known for the midcentury modern design movement, but Portland boasts its own sleek, retro futuristic homes—sans backyard pools.
On Saturday, May 14, Restore Oregon's 2016 Mid-Century Modern Tour will walk participants through seven such Portland-area homes built in the late 1940s, '50s, and '60s, evoking a long-gone national, technological, and social optimism.
Check out our slideshow above for a sneak peek. The family homes tend to be low, open, and well-lit with floor to ceiling windows and clean, curved lines. A few even have original kitchens, boasting now-extinct conveniences such as built-in blenders, "pop-out" sewing machines, and intercoms.
