Portland micro-chain heavyweights Micah Camden and Katie Poppe are planning to open their third Boxer Ramen location on NW 23 Avenue, just down the street from their Blue Star Donuts and Little Big Burger Northwest locations. The duo is responsible for five different Portland restaurant concepts and sold the largest of those, Little Big Burger, to the owners of Hooters earlier this year.Â
- Frice Pastry, a ChefStable baking operation at 4082 N Williams Ave, closed suddenly on Saturday November 14. Alissa Frice, known for her Amelie-cute pastry work at St. Jack, shared the baking space with Philippe’s Bread, the moneymaking ChefStable bread bakery—reportedly a contentious arrangement. Despite the abrupt eviction, ChefStable announced plans to help relocate Frice’s business.Â
- It seems every other week brings a new announcement about Pine Street Market, Portland’s upcoming food hall from Feast Co-Founder Mike Thelin. Local ice cream titans Salt & Straw are the latest to throw their hat in the ring. Owners Kim and Tyler Malek are planning something new (but still ice cream-related) for the intended food hall. It’s early for details, but rumors of soft-serve abound.
- McMenamins opens its newest bottle shop in the revamped 23rd Avenue Market space. Starting November 19, beer and liquor enthusiasts can choose from over 800 various craft beers, ciders, wines, and spirits offered at the newly dubbed 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop. The spot will also provide growler fills and feature weekly cocktail specials.Â
- Pizza Maria signs off after 18 months of serving Neapolitan-style pies at 3060 SE Division St. Co-owner/chef Sean Coyne brought major chops from places like New York’s Sullivan Street Bakery and Napa’s Bouchon Bakery, but was unable to keep the restaurant afloat, citing slow business as the reason for closing.
- The first major change to Stumptown Coffee since its sale to San Francisco-based Peet’s Coffee & Tea is the addition of a breakfast menu at its Portland locations. The menu, developed by Stumptown founder Duane Sorenson and Ava Gene’s/Roman Candle Chef Joshua McFadden, features three sandwiches inspired by Sorenson’s time spent in Amsterdam.
