For the seventh year in a row, the Modern Architecture & Design Society brings back Portland’s Modern Home Tour on Saturday, June 2. Though most of the homes on the tour are not for sale (sorry!), the tour aims to allow audiences to hear from the architects about their designs and appreciate the work behind designing the homes. Each house included in the tour has been chosen from a list of submissions from architectures, designers, and ordinary Portlanders, and only the best are featured in the tour. All of the homes have modern and contemporary elements, but can range from a renovated midcentury home to an apartment.

“We like to have a variety of eras, scales, and parts of the Portland metro area represented,” says curator and Portland Monthly contributor Brian Libby.

This year’s tour will feature seven homes, one of which is the Alcoa Care-Free Home, a midcentury modern house built from aluminum and used as one of 24 demonstration projects for the Alcoa aluminum company in 1957, making it one of a kind. The Modern Architecture & Design Society will also host an after-party (included in the ticket price) near Lacamas Lake with food, refreshments, a raffle, and live music.
