Lose Yourself in These 7 Portland-Area Corn Mazes

Work your way through the dead ends and wrong turns, then reward yourself with apple cider doughnuts.

By Portland Monthly Staff October 7, 2024

"Farmers feed families," reads the corn maze at French Prairie Gardens.

You've picked your pumpkins and your apples. You've peeped your leaves. Maybe you've even visited a haunted house or caught a horror movie or two. Now it's time to navigate your way through the dead ends, wrong turns, and random pathways of Portland-area corn mazes, then treat yourself to seasonal favorites like apple cider doughnuts or caramel apples. Make sure to wear shoes that can get muddy, and prepare for crowds and traffic if you venture to Sauvie Island.

The Maize at the Pumpkin Patch

16511 NW Gillihan Rd, Portland

The 2024 rendition of this eight-acre Sauvie Island "Maize" celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip. Fuel up beforehand with burgers, German smoked sausages, and apple cider doughnuts from the onsite café.

Price: Adults $11.25, kids and seniors $9.25

Bella Organic's maze is dedicated to educators.

Bella Organic Farm

16205 NW Gillihan Rd, Portland

Also on Sauvie Island, this seven-acre maze is this year dedicated to educators, with a message reading "Thank You Teachers." (And if you're on staff at a school in Oregon, you get free entry.) With approximately 2.7 miles of pathways, the farm says it takes about an hour for "intrepid visitors" to figure their way out. Every Friday and Saturday night in October, the maze turns into a haunted attraction featuring goblins, zombies, and chainsaw-wielding farmers. Take note: All activities are cash-only, but there's an ATM onsite.

Price: $10–12 regular, $40–45 haunted

Topaz Farm

17100 NW Sauvie Island Rd, Portland

Lose yourself not among corn stalks but sunflowers at this fan-favorite Sauvie Island farm. Carved in the shape of Oregon—you've never made it to Pendleton so fast—the maze spans 6.5 acres. For the little ones, Topaz will also have an Alice in Wonderland–themed trick-or-treat maze in a one-acre sorghum field, open just October 26 and 27.

Price: Included with farm admission ($12–15)

Liepold Farms

14050 SE Richey Rd, Boring

Long-running Liepold Farms, established in 1952, has a corn maze spanning six acres. This year’s theme is “The Magic Under Our Feet,” celebrating earthworms, roots, and the importance of healthy soil. (Look for costumed worms around the farm, too.) Try and find all the dead ends to win a prize, or stay late to work through the maze in the dark. The 21-and-up crowd can enjoy a nighttime maze on October 12 featuring a fire performance, seasonal buffet, and s'mores bar (tickets are $40 and include dinner and two drinks).

Price: Included with Farm admission (Adults $20, Kids $15)

Can you spot the scarecrow in Yesteryear's maze?

Yesteryear Farms

The maze at Hoffman Farms spans an impressive 10 acres.

Hoffman Farms

22242 SW Scholls Ferry rd, Beaverton

French Prairie Gardens

17673 French Prairie Rd, St. Paul

This six-acre corn maze has a design honoring farmers this year, and games inside the maze double as opportunities to learn about agriculture. The labyrinth fun continues with a two-acre kids maze and a rope maze. If you're out during the weekend, don't miss the farm's “Pigtucky Derby Pig Races”—a Kentucky Derby–style race with pigs instead of horses.

Price: Included with Farm admission ($17.99–$29.99 advance, $5 more onsite)
