Acapulco's Gold
If educational hand-holding is what you seek on your tour through the sodden world of tequila, this kitschy south-of-the-border rocker bar isn’t your joint. But it’s perfect for self-motivated agave connoisseurs. Attached to the Northwest Portland Mexican restaurant of the same name, the bar offers more than 45 varieties ranging from peppery blanco to the smoother reposado and añejo styles, as well as tequilas flavored with ingredients like citrus and almond. While you’ll also find the usual suspects (Patrón, Don Julio) here, we recommend sampling some of the rarer distillants in the house, such as Chinaco or Milagro.
Happy hour here is best known for its $4.50 margaritas augmented by an awesome array of tequilas. Still, the recently revamped food menu is no slouch, with decent sized servings of chicken taquitos and nachos ringing in at only $4 each.
