The Tasty/Toro empire’s West End Israeli street food kitchen, just across the street from Tasty N Alder, boasts a bevy of light, mix-and-match meals--poppyseedy little cucumber-kohlrabi salads to creamy hummus plates adorned with maitake mushrooms or braised lamb. (Dinnertime adds more substantial plates, like the oregano-perfumed lambchops also found at sister restaurant MEC.) At lunch, grab a seat in the teeny dining room and kick things off with a blackberry Manischewitz-spiked spritzer and an order of muhamara. The punchy roasted pepper spread, rich and tart with pomegranate molasses, is the key topper for Shalom’s warm, puffy flatbread.
