Chair Charity
On Thursday, April 23, 425 guests gathered at the Staver Locomotive building in Northwest Portland for the annual Chair Affair. Thanks to some generous bids, $90,000 was raised in support of the Community Warehouse, the nation’s fourth-largest furniture bank that works in partnership with over 80 local nonprofit and social service agencies to collect furniture and household items for local families. Funds raised at the event will go to assisting almost 700 families in need of housing and furniture in the community.
The sold-out benefit kicked off with a silent auction, as guests mingled with the artists and sampled wines while placing bids on on chair-inspired-artwork from over 80 local artists, including paintings, pottery, and dozens of creatively decorated chairs. Chairs at this year’s event included a remarkable array of looks from a chair covered in stuffed teddy bears to a love seat called the Library Chair that featured an arrangement of old books, and curiously, moss emerging from its torn cushions. A live auction of eight deluxe gift packages also was part of the festivities.
