25th Anniversary of the Classic Wines Auction
Some 750 guests poured into the Oregon Convention Center on March 7 for the 25th Anniversary Classic Wines Auction, one of the most prominent charity events in the country. Attendees were treated to a wine and cheese tasting, followed by dinner and a silent auction of distinctive and valuable vintages. These wines were chosen by a quartet of wine ambassadors—distinguished representatives from wineries in Oregon, Washington, California and France. Over $2.2 million was raised at the event in support of selected Oregon non-profit organizations that support children and families. These included YWCA Clark County, Metropolitan Family Service, Trillium Family Services, Friends of the Children-Portland, and New Avenues for Youth.
The auction began in 1982 by a small group of friends exchanging wines from their personal collections to raise funds for Portland’s Metropolitan Family Service. It has expanded greatly over time to attract new supporters and increase its fundraising goals to benefit more children and families in the Portland community. Cheers to a job well done!
