Situated at NE 14th and Alberta, Shift sits directly across from Tin Shed. Sip coffee on the front porch while you wait for a table at the popular brunch spot.

Owner and interior designer Michelle Ruber designed the High Gear unit's showpiece tricycle chandelier, which regularly gets second looks from passersby. The walls are dotted with works from local artists like Flora Bowley and Erinn Kathryn.

Shift's kitchen and bathroom counters were created by Bend's Cement Elegance. (In renovating the house, Ruber and de Jonge tried to use local companies as much as possible.)

The High Gear unit holds three queen beds accented by quirky local touches like this map of Portland, secured from a "sometimes open" oddities shop just down the street.

Upstairs in the High Gear unit, you'll find another bedroom, bathroom, and this chalkboard wall—perfect for kids (including the grown-up kind).
