Famous people and celebrity guests galore!

Meet the celebrities you love, from a pre-con Q&A with Robert Englund (and a screening to go with it) and a chance to meet Grimm stars Silas Weir Mitchell and Reggie Lee, to a chance to get a photo and an autograph with Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia, but you already knew that). Also, see panels with the Eisner award winners and nominees who wrote, inked, illustrated and published some of your favorites, including (among so many others) Kelly Sue DeConnick, Matt Fraction, Jonathan Case, and Michael Allred.

A panel for everyone!

The long list of panels includes sessions on how to pitch, freelance, and build your career in the comics industry, and a panel called “the Pros of Prose” (wordplay!). There are also “spotlight” panels where the creative team behind a comic, film, or tv show discuss the entire creative process. Keep an eye out for the Spotlight on Bitch Planet whose panel includes the entire team—Kelly Sue DeConnick, Valentine De Landro, and Robert Wilson IV. And for the academic-minded, look for critical and literary analysis panels like “Personhood in Battlestar Galactica,” and “Gender Non-Conformists: From Peppermint Patty to Graphic Memoir,” among others.

A weekend pass that won’t break the bank!

Two full days (Saturday 10-7, Sunday 10-5) of panel-packed, game, and cos-playing adventures (over 100 hours of programming!) for only $50? It’s almost like you can’t afford not to go.

Kids area and games!

All weekend, thanks to Rainy Day Games, there will be gaming demos (where you can meet the publishers) and games to check out, along with the space to play. You could play in a Magic the Gathering tournament all weekend, or check out Smash Up or Munchkin. And with an entire kid’s area, fully stocked with balloon art, Lego, and Dragon Theatre, that's right next to the University of Oregon Comic Studies gallery, they whole family will be happy.

A free kick-off party?!

Friday, September 18, Portland Things from Another World, is hosting a kick-off party for the con. It’s hard to pick the best part about the event, but the fact that entry is free is at the top of our list. Also on our list? Free food and beer (legal restrictions apply), and a prize wheel! You can go to a free party, eat free food, and walk away with free stuff? It’s hard to see a downside. 7-10 pm. Things from Another World 2916 NE Broadway
