Portland watch company Vero is all about manufacturing timepieces for active lifestyles. “It is a sport-inspired brand, is what we say,” says Chris Boudreaux, Vero co-founder. “We want the watches to be lifestyle pieces, not so much luxury items.”

This Friday, Vero unveils its new 36 series at menswear mecca Wildwood & Company. Inspired by the vintage looks of the '70s, the hand-wound, 36-millimeter watch has an exposed back and is smaller than its modern counterparts. A collaboration between Vero and Wildwood, it combines the former's classic style and production, with features, colors, and other touches conceptualized by Wildwood.

“It is a bold, mechanical watch, for one, at a pretty attractive price point, but also at a size you're not seeing in a lot of watches [today] that look and feel like this one,” Boudreaux says. (That price point may depend on your definition of "attractive": the series starts at $1,080.) On Friday, Vero will also display production prototypes of its SW/SW-GMT model.

The collaboration was a seamless fit, Boudreaux says, not only thanks to the brands' complementary styles but also because the owners are good friends.

“It makes sense because of the way the brands are connected, because of the way they complement each other," he says. "There is real feedback on both sides. It’s two brands that work well together."
