Long Day’s Journey Into Night Opens This Weekend!

It’s opening weekend for the most prestigious play in town, starring Oscar-winner William Hurt, and “Queen of Australian Theater” Robyn Nevin. The critically revered Eugene O’Neill play is one of a canon of 50’s dramas (alongside Tennessee Williams’ and Arthur Miller’s works) that delve deep into family dynamics, and the myriad disappointments of true intimacy. The luminary cast for this particular production convened in Australia, under the auspices of Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton, to rehearse the work, reportedly really digging into the script’s chilling marrow. After a month-long run in Sydney Theatre to a collective audience of more than 29,000, the production arrives at Artists Repertory Theater tomorrow, giving Portland audiences equal opportunity to be deeply moved.
