a rare gem

Leslie & The Lys Tonight!

By Anne Adams July 30, 2012

Leslie Hall is, in a word, inimitable—though many try, ransacking thrift stores for the art-school avant diva’s iconic gem sweaters, oversized glasses, and gold spandex—none of which were in vogue before she started to sport them in 2004. A trendsetter and a social media mastermind, Leslie’s long-running musical performance project Leslie and the LY’s has enjoyed cameos on Mtv and Yo Gabba Gabba. The LY’s live show also tends to draw enthusiastic Portland throngs who are not only down to party, but willing to dress the part.

In the following saucy little number, see how the LY’s use dance music and video as a platform for plus-size pride, defying status-quo beauty standards by reveling in Leslie’s "body rolls." Intrigued? Consider catching Leslie live at Branx at 9pm only if you’re willing to bust out your shiniest spandex and join in the fun.
