People are starting to say that fall is in the air (generally with an aching note of sorrow in their voice). Sure, it might mean that trips to swimming holes are coming to a close, but on the bright side, fall also means the launch of a new season for most of our amazing arts organizations. From Portland Center Stage’s first ever Sondheim (the deliciously macabre Sweeney Todd) to the international art firebrand Kara Walker’s solo show at Reed’s Cooley Gallery to the tenth anniversary of the Time-Based Art Festival, this season is looking to be nothing short of spectacular.

So, dear Culturephile readers, on the offhand chance that you’ve missed it elsewhere on the website, we wanted to let you know that our Fall Arts Preview hit newsstands and the web on Monday. We took as our starting point the collaborative spirit Portland is known for—every season sees bands collaborating with dance companies whose video installations are made by visual artists who design album art for other bands—and chose to profile six particularly dynamic collaborative pairs, including a playwright and a war journalist who met in the Arctic, a curator and a performance artist whose wild antics makes the curator’s hearts do summersaults, a choreographer and a visual artists creating a mythological forest of Tyvek trees for Oregon Ballet Theatre’s dancers to explore, and three more.

Along the way, we also offer our picks of the best exhibits, performances, and concerts. Consider it a teaser to sweeten the end of summer with dreams of fall art adventures.
