Pickathon’s white tension-mounted fabric shade structures flowered into a gorgeous, colorful sky-scape by night.
Most campers found ways to fend off the near-hundred-degree afternoon heat.

South Carolinian Pickathon newcomers Shovels & Rope earned their keep with vigorous sweaty-upper-lipped blues rock. Don’t they look satisfied post-show? The crowd in the Workshop Barn had just given them a standing O.
The Cardboard Songsters (left) regaled a rapt crowd of youngsters (right) with silly costumes, boppy bluegrass music and—you guessed it—cardboard cutouts. “It’s Saturday morning cartoons!” exclaimed the emcee.

Honed by 15 years’ experience, Los Cojolites brought their version of Mexican tradicion to the Pickathon stage, complete with rhythmic dancing (right).
Portland’s own Blitzen Trapper rocked a day set on the main stage, as well as an evening one in the Woods. Frontman Eric Earley (upper right) also sat in with other local bluesmen Denver in the Galaxy Barn.

The Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars passionately flaunted their authentic African song and garb, but spoke to the audience in French, answering the raucous applause they received with “Merci!”
This pair snuck away from the shows to stargaze.
