a loving sacrilege

There’re a lot of shows that have us excited about the theater season that’s just kicking off (Sweeney Todd and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson to start), but if there’s one thing we’re most excited about, like sing-it-to-the-heavens excited, it’s the touring Broadway production of The Book of Mormon. Written by the creators of South Park and winner of some nine Tony Awards and a Grammy, the show continues to be impossible to see on Broadway because it’s sold out through the Second Coming. But, dear Portlanders, you don’t need to go to New York, because the show is coming to us. Portland is the—count it!—fifth stop on the American tour, after cities like LA and Chicago.

The show will grace our not-quite churchless city with its delectable sacrilege from January 1–6. Talk about a divine start to the New Year. And tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 am. We suspect it will sell out by 10:01.

Tickets begin at $38.50 and will be available at BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com/Portland, the Portland Opera box office, and all TicketsWest outlets, or by calling (800) 992-8499.
