New Year’s Eve is a tough holiday, if you ask us. With expectations for the occasion impossibly high, it’s hard for anything you do to live up to the hype.

But that's only if you've never counted down to midnight with Pink Martini. If anybody pulls off this anticipation-laden evening, it’s these Portland cult favorites. The “little orchestra,” led by pianist Thomas Lauderdale and singer China Forbes that has won legions of fans near and far with its eclectic blend of world, lounge, and jazz music, rings in the new year properly: with suits and gowns and "Auld Sang Lyne," not to mention an ever shifting lineup of musical guests (NPR political correspondent Ari Shapiro croons just as well as he reports).

Pink Martini plays two shows (an early performance and a late performance) with the Portland Youth Philharmonic at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on December 31. As an added bonus, three bucks from every ticket purchase goes to the wunderkinds of PYP, so you can start 2013 with some good karma.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow and will probably sell quickly. Unless you’re not bothering to make plans for after the Apocalypse, you’ll want to buy yours ASAP.
