Breaking: Someday Lounge to Close

This just in: after a flurry of rumors, Someday Lounge just announced on its Facebook page that it will close the blinds and turn out the lights indefinitely on Monday, March 18. Co-owner and director of operations Michael Grimes declined to comment, saying that details are not yet finalized, but Culturephile has been told by other sources that Someday received an offer from an outside group to buy the club, with the intention of opening a new club with a different format, although the deal is not complete. We can only hope that whatever new venue takes its space will channel some of the performance edge and diversity that Someday relished, and not be just another Oldtown, weekend-night beer pit.
For the next 11 days, Someday has lined up a greatest hits parade of the parties and performers who have filled its space over the last six years, including an all star going away party on Thursday, March 14, that’s the equivalent of the Someday Christmas Special, seeing many of its friends and luminaries taking the stage, including DJ Anjali & Incredible Kid, Cool Nutz and Illmaculate, Someday Incubator, Alameda, and a closing Dookie Jam with Tony Ozier and the Doo Doo Funk All Star. For a full lineup, visit the Facebook page.
Someday’s statement:

We are extremely proud to have played a role in the robust performance community of Portland, Oregon. Those of us who remain in the area are excited to continue participating in various capacities as community builders and service providers to our city, the most creative city in the country. Thank you to everyone who performed here or supported us over the last six years in any way. Following is a schedule of our remaining events. We hope that you will come out and enjoy the room with us a time or two in the next couple of weeks. Be well."
