There'll be a "Whole Lotta Love" to go around at this year's Waterfront Blues Festival (July 4–7), as former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has been confirmed to headline the fest on Sunday, July 7. The 64-year-old rocker will bring his latest band, the Sensational Space Shifters, to the fest, which also features Eric Burdon, Robert Randolph, John Hiatt, Mavis Staples, Taj Mahal, and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, among other awesome folks. Presale passes for the blues festival go on sale April 9.
"But what will we do till then?" cried the Zep-deprived citizens of Portland. Good news! Local Led Zeppelin tribute band, Ramble On, will be erupting at Doug Fir Lounge this Friday at 8:30! OK, so it's not the genuine article, but then most of us never got the chance to see LZ back in the day, so use your imagination. And during "Moby Dick" pretend that the spirit of the late John Bonham is temporarily inhabiting Ramble On drummer Merrill Hale. It'll be epic, and "No Quarter" will be given.
