My adventure began with this Seattle duo, composed of Benjamin Verdoes and Nathan Quiroga. Verdoes is also the frontman for Mt St Helens Vietnam Band, one of my favorite shows from Sasquatch 2009.
Friday, 1 PM - Modern Kin
Portland's own Modern Kin wowed a growing crowd of arriving attendees to kick off the Yeti Stage performances.

Kithkin didn't waste a moment of its 45-minute set; the guitarist stage-dived less than a minute into his first song, and was barely caught in time by a very surprised crowd.

I was surprised and charmed by this group's perfectly synchronized dance moves—who knew frontmen could be their own back-up dancers?

Maya Rudolph threw down her fiercest Prince impression during this performance with her Prince tribute band.

Tyler's lyrics may be abrasive at times, but his stage banter was surprisingly charming and amusing. "Can we all get a little ignorant for a minute?" he asked before launching into a rap dedicated to girls who suck, uh, you know.

On a personal note, my mother and her very conservative lawyer-boyfriend both danced with wild abandon throughout Mescudi's main stage show, and I have the video to prove it. Life made.
Sunday, 10 PM - Portugal. The Man
While one Portland band opened the festival, this PDX-based band wrapped it up for anyone too tired to stay up for Major Lazer's midnight dance party.
