Ben Folds and yMusic

First he was the Ben Folds Five frontman, finding a mass audience with the alt-rock hit Brick. Then he was plain old Ben Folds again, releasing solo albums at a clip, collaborating on experimental songwriting projects, producing albums, and judging NBC’s a capella singing show The Sing-Off. Now he’s taken another direction with new album So There, collaborating with a chamber music ensemble—yMusic—on this pop-meets-classical, orchestral album that includes Folds's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.

“What is this? /It doesn’t make much sense/ They sing it like a pop song / You’re capable of anything!” So goes the album’s opening lyric—find out what Folds is capable of at the Roseland next week, where he’s joined by the New York-based chamber ensemble yMusic.
