Pomeroy, Paley, and Pine State Biscuits

Your Portland TV guide for the week

By Karen Brooks April 13, 2011

Seems like every time you turn on your TV these days, Portland is in the house. And if you miss the moment, not to worry: everything will live online or in re-runs until all is a sea of ash.

Here’s your watching guide for this week:

Tonight: Beast’s Naomi Pomeroy battles in Week 2 of Top Chef Masters. Last week, it appeared that Pomeroy was an early damsel in distress with a no-finish dish in the Quickfire Challenge (often the smell of doom for a contestant). But then she emerged as a player, a team leader, and a calm force leading her team victoriously through the Restaurant Wars and getting big kudos from judge and American food queen Ruth Reichl for her chocolate torte. Pomeroy got lots of glam-girl shots. The camera loves her. She’s not leaving any time soon. (Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo)

Sunday, April 17: We finally get to see how Portland farm-to-table pioneer Vitaly Paley (Paley’s Place) stacks up against Philly’s Latin-fusion warrior Jose Garces on Iron Chef America at 10 p.m. on the Food Network.

Unique Eats: Man about town and former Portland Monthly culinary insider Mike Thelin is busy taking over the food world, staging major food throwdowns from Austin to New York, networking with anyone that matters, and now taking to the air waves. Catch Thelin in his new gig uncovering Unique Eats on the Cooking Channel, the new sister network to the Food Network. With a cast of eater/authorities as scouts, Unique Eats travels around the country looking for the most…well, unique things to eat at restaurants, diners, food carts, and five-star dining rooms.

Some Thelin favorites:

Humphrey Slocombe in San Francisco

Pine State Biscuits in Portland

The Sentinel in San Francisco

VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland
