Our digest of Portland’s top upcoming food and drink events, including Ping’s first winemaker dinner and a weekend full of beer festivals to kick off the summer drinking season.

Zoo Brew at the Oregon Zoo

What: Over 60 local brewers and cidermakers will be pouring their wares surrounded by feathered and furred beasts at this Oregon Zoo fundraiser. The event will also feature live music, beer games, and educational workshops.
When: Friday, June 1st from 5 to 10 pm
Where: The Oregon Zoo 4001 SW Canyon Rd
How Much: $35 per person. Tickets include entry to event, commemorative glass and 10 tasting tokens. Additional tokens will be available for $1 each. Tickets available here.

Amnesia 2nd Annual Single Hop Fest

What: A dozen Portland breweries will be showcasing their best single hop beers, including Amnesia’s Mt. Hood and Golding dry hopped Summer golden ale, Breakside’s Opal and Amarillo Wheat Ale, Burnside’s Meridian Rye, Occidental’s Perle cloudy Summer Koelsch-style Ale, and many more. Amnesia will also be serving up meaty and veggie sausages, burgers, and beer-poached Olympic Provisions frankfurters with single-hop beer mustard.
When: Saturday, June 2nd from noon to 10 pm

The Green Dragon’s Fifth Annual Firkin Fest

What: 30 local breweries, including Firestone Walker, Good Life, Lompoc, Fire on the Mountain, Silver Moon, Rogue, Track Town, Columbia River, and more, will come together at this Rogue-sponsored event featuring unpasteurized and unfiltered beers naturally carbonated in the cask and served at cellar temperature. Guests can get their nosh on with plenty of snacks from local artisan cheese, charcuterie, and chocolate makers.
When: Saturday, June 2nd, with sessions from 11 am to 2 pm and 3 to 6 pm
Where: The Green Dragon, 928 SE 9th Ave.

Cana’s Feast Winemakers Dinner at Ping

What: Ping’s first winemaker dinner will showcase the Italian-inspired wines from Oregon’s Cana’s Feast Winery paired with delicious Asian fare. The event will also feature a special wine created in partnership with Nostrana chef Cathy Whims called Cavallo Rosso. Dishes are set to include Khao Thom pork bone broth rice soup, Salapao (Thai-style steamed bun stuffed with sweet shredded pork), grilled chicken breast and heart skewers marinated in soy, mirin, sake and sesame.
When: Sunday, June 3rd at 5:30 pm.

Speakeasy 721 at Ecotrust

What: Don your finest prohibition-era garb for this celebration of Portland’s enticing array of distilleries and artisan ingredients. The event will feature live music from local jazz band Boy and Bean, as well as spirit and appetizer pairings from New Deal Distillery and Simpatica, Bull Run Distillery and Cana’s Feast Winery "Chinato", Big Bottom Whiskey and Columbia Gorge Organics, and many more.
When: Wednesday, June 6th from 6 to 8 pm
Where: Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center (Ecotrust) 721 NW 9th Avenue
How Much: Tickets are $10 per person (21 years & older) and are available here

2nd Annual Portland Fruit Beer Festival

What: An East Burnside block party featuring over 25 taps of the area’s best fruit-powered brews and ciders. Check out the full event details on Eat Beat here.
When: Saturday, June 9th from 11 am to 9 pm and Sunday, June 10th from 11 am to 6 pm
Where: Northeast 7th between East Burnside and Northeast Couch Streets

Feastworks Father’s Day Pig Butchery Class

What: Let dad bring home the bacon at this special three-hour event for Portland’s pork-loving papas. Butcher Ethan Bisagna will break down a Carlton Farms pig, showing guests different cuts of meat and tips on how to prepare them. What’s more, dad gets to snack on Feastworks charcuterie and will take home plenty of pork after class.
When: Sunday, June 17th (Father’s Day) at 2 pm
Where: Portland Homestead Supply Co. 8012 SE 13th Ave
How Much: $100 per person, reservations required as space is limited. Please reserve your spots for you and dad at www.feastworks.com.
