What do you get when you combine the edible creations of Xocolatl de David, Tabla, Toro Bravo, Aviary, Bar Lolo and Ned Ludd with wine selections from Cork Bottle Shop’s Darryl Joannides? A block party worth toasting with a full glass of crisp and refreshing txakoli.
On Saturday, August 11th from noon to 5 pm, these local culinary masters will team up to offer an afternoon of flavorful Basque-inspired bites, fit for washing down with my personal pick for the wine of the summer—the crave-worthy, effervescent and refreshing Spanish sip pronounced cha-co-lee.
Twelve different txakoli and sidra (Spanish hard cider) will be flowing at the event tent on Northeast 29th and Alberta, the chefs will dish up choice sweet and savory tapas, and the good vibes are sure to last all afternoon. Proceeds from the Txak Parti will benefit the Urban Farm Collective—working to bring neighbors together to transform vacant lots into Northeast Portland neighborhood food gardens—and Alberta Main Street.
Cork’s Basque wine and food festival is a part of the fifteenth-annual Alberta Street Fair, a full family-friendly day of live entertainment, local crafts, and sustainable food and drink vendors. Kind of like Last Thursday on (organic, fair trade) steroids, this quintessential summer event is not to be missed—not least of all for the inevitable references it will inspire on the next season of Portlandia.
