Forget the Christmas lights, this holiday season the glow is coming from wood-fired ovens. One of the earliest adopters of Portland's hearth craze, Northeast Dekum's Firehouse Restaurant, will gather friends and family around the table to celebrate the season the traditional way: with booze.

Chef/owner Matthew Busetto's cozy neighborhood eatery will host two communal holiday dinners highlighting local brew from Portland’s Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider and Bend’s GoodLife Brewing.

Firehouse’s Holiday Dinner Series kicks off on Monday, December 3rd at 6:30 pm with cidermaster Nat West of Portland’s newest hard cidery Reverend Nat’s (which just so happens to be made down the street from Firehouse). West makes very small-batch cider with inspired ingredients like apricot juice, fresh Northwest hops, ginger, sour cherries, and single-varieties of heirloom apples, and this will be his first pairing dinner.

The cider dinner will feature dishes like mussels with fennel, white beans, and spicy sausage; grilled squid and rosemary braised ceci beans; pizza bianca with chanterelles and thyme; wood-grilled flank steak with arugula, parmesan and hazelnut bread salsa; and apple spice cake with crabapple butter ice cream and cider sauce.

The series continues of Monday, December 10th at 6:30 pm with a beer-pairing dinner with Bend’s GoodLife Brewing (best known for their flagship dry hop classic American pale ale, Mountain Reserve, and their Descender IPA). The brewers will be on hand to answer questions about Bend's beer scene, and raise a glass to good food and good company (menu TBA).

Both family-style dinners will take place in Firehouse's private dining room. The cider dinner costs $55 per person and the beer dinner is $50, pairings and gratuity included. Call 503-954-1702 to save your seat, or email [email protected] for more information.
