OPENING DAY

Pig Out at the New Downtown Lardo

The second brick-and-mortar outpost of Rick Gencarelli's pig-centric eatery is now open on the corner of SW Washington and 12th.

Pork master Rick Gencarelli is at it again. Just five months after the opening of his first brick-and-mortar Lardo sandwich shop on SE Hawthorne, the talented comfort food guru has debuted the second outpost of his craveable eatery in the West End.

In the light-filled space most recently home to half of chef Christopher Israel's short-lived Corazón (and the failed Pinot Brasserie before that), the team at Lardo is hoping to break the curse of the challenging location by dishing up their slammin' sandwiches, lard-fried frites, and enviable beer and cocktail program, seven days a week.

In addition to offering the full gauntlet of crave-worthy sandwiches that have drawn long lines since Lardo 1.0's July opening— like the Porchetta with gremolata and caper mayo, the Double Burger with pork belly and cheddar, the Griddled Mortadella with provolone and marinated peppers, the Pork Meatball Banh Mi, and the Smoked Coppa Cubano just to name a few—the new Lardo location has a much bigger kitchen, allowing Gencarelli to get even more creative.

Head over to our slideshow by clicking the link above to explore the new space and get a peak and new sweet and savory offerings, and stop in soon to get a taste for yourself. Your appetite will thank you.
