Remedy Wine Bar to Open June 21

A new wine bar spotlighting family-run and indie wineries with a living room vibe hits the North Park Blocks this month.

Remedy, a cure for the common wine bar, is set to debut on Portland's idyllic North Park Blocks with a focus on international small brand wines and family-run wineries.

Located in NW Everett's historic pharmacy supply (the Blumauer-Frank Wholesale Drug Co.), the 1100-square-foot eat-and-drinkery will land on the summer solstice, June 21. Here's what to expect:

The team: Remedy is co-owned by KitchenCru's Michael Madigan (the unofficial mayor of NW Broadway, who also owns and operates Bowery Bagels across the street) and affordable wine guru Dan Beekley. The small-plates menu is the creation of Ingrid Chen, KitchenCru's former Kitchen Operations Manager and Events Chef who has spent time in the kitchens of Clyde Common, Olympic Provisions, and Ten01.

The vibe: Comfortable chairs, high ceilings  open park-view windows, twelve-seat bar, and laid back ambiance invite tipplers to relax and enjoy a rotating list of reds, whites, rosés, and bubbles (plus at least six local beers) alongside a menu of simple dishes showcasing seasonal ingredients (think cheese plates, farmer's market veggie salads and roasted veg small plates, charcuterie, chocolate desserts, and inventive pickles).

The wine: The by-the-glass, half-bottle, and bottle lists will highlight over 110 selections from Dan Beekley, focusing on affordable, youthful wines from family-owned wineries far off the beaten path.

From Beekley: "White focuses will be on Sancerre, Alsace, Chablis, and about a dozen interesting Oregon whites. The red list will explore Italy's Piedmont, Loire Valley Cabernet Francs, and a catch-all category called "the Power Lifters"—muscular, deep, structured reds from around the world. And, of course, there will be a focus on local Pinot Noir too. With summertime here, rosé will fill the entire first page of the wine list—about a dozen options from around the world."

Stay tuned for photos and first sips here on Eat Beat once Remedy's doors are open.
